Be. Belong. Become.

Sometimes a phrase lands at exactly the right moment in life.

At the YMCA, part of the mission is simple: Be. Belong. Become.

Lately, those words have been quietly staying with me.

After decades of living inside deadlines, productions, urgency, impossible expectations, and nonstop movement, I think I forgot what it felt like to simply be. For years, I lived in motion—building events, solving problems, managing teams, making the impossible happen, and carrying responsibility before the current challenge was even finished.

There was meaning in that work, and at times, real magic. But restful? Grounding? Not even remotely.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped noticing how tightly wound I had become.

Then came this chapter.

Training clients. Health coaching. Working at the Y.

Unexpectedly, something began to shift—not dramatically, but slowly. Quietly.

For the first time in a very long while, I started experiencing something unfamiliar:

Space.

The kind of space that comes when your nervous system is no longer waiting for catastrophe. When no one urgently needs something from you at midnight. When your job is simply to show up, help people, and then go home.

No headset. No keynote changing five minutes before doors. No impossible timeline. No constant state of anticipation.

Just people trying to feel better.

Move better.

Get stronger.

Age well.

And strangely, I realized:

I fit here.

Maybe not forever. Maybe this is simply a season. But for now, it feels right.

Because those three words—Be. Belong. Become.—feel unexpectedly aligned with what life is teaching me right now.

To be, without constantly proving.

To belong, to community, purpose, and meaningful connection.

And to become, which may be the word that resonates most deeply of all.

I’m still becoming.

A better coach. A stronger human. A healthier version of myself. An artist again. A musician returning. Someone learning how to live more intentionally and spend energy in ways that feel aligned.

For the first time in a long time, I don’t feel like I’m sprinting toward something.

I feel like I’m growing into it.

And maybe that’s enough for now.
